Another honor for The Band Steele as Bo Steele presents the Hometown Hero Award to William Provonsha, a 95 year old WWII Veteran during 3rd period of the Toledo Walleye Hockey game on Veterans Day.

William Provonsha was a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II. William resided in Lucas County, Ohio before enlisting on October 16, 1942. At the time of enlistment, William was 20 years old, had 4 years of high school education and was married. Two years later, William was captured by the Nazis while serving in Germany, and was sent to Stalag Luft 4 near Grosstychow, Prussia where 6,660 other American POWs were held. William’s capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on March 6, 1944, and the last report was made on May 29, 1945. Based on these two reports, William was imprisoned for at least 449 days (1 year and ~3 months). The average duration of imprisonment was 363 days. Ultimately, William was returned to military control, liberated or repatriated.
